What is an ESTA?
Purpose
An ESTA is an automated screening process to determine eligibility to travel to the U.S. under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP). It's required for citizens of VWP countries visiting for tourism, business, or transit for up to 90 days.
Duration & Requirements
Allows stays of up to 90 days in the United States. It's mandatory for VWP citizens before boarding a U.S.-bound flight or ship, even for connecting flights.

Important Notice
An ESTA is NOT a visa. It's an authorization to travel to the United States under the Visa Waiver Program. If you plan to stay longer than 90 days, study, work, or engage in other activities not permitted under the VWP, you will need to apply for the appropriate visa.

Note: Even citizens of VWP countries may be ineligible for ESTA if they have traveled to certain restricted countries or have other disqualifying factors.

Required Information
You'll need your passport details, personal information, travel plans, and answers to eligibility questions. Have your passport ready when applying.
Most applications are processed within 72 hours, but apply at least 72 hours before travel.
Validity & Travel
An approved ESTA is generally valid for two years or until your passport expires (whichever comes first).
You must travel with the passport used for the ESTA application. Always check your ESTA status before traveling.
